Modigent Partners with Interplay Learning to Launch Simulation-Based Plumbing and HVAC Apprenticeships
Modigent has partnered with Interplay Learning to launch a flexible, simulation-based Plumbing and HVAC Apprenticeship Program featuring immersive 3D and virtual reality training combined with weekly in-person labs, designed to standardize and scale workforce development across Modigent’s 18 companies, enhance skill advancement, and support long-term career growth for employees nationwide.
Interplay Learning, a provider of immersive skilled trades training, has partnered with Modigent, a national leader in infrastructure, technology, and energy solutions, to launch a Plumbing and HVAC Apprenticeship Program. This initiative aims to provide Modigent employees with flexible, high-impact training to develop real-world skills and support long-term career growth in the trades.
Modigent is enhancing its workforce development efforts by introducing a training pathway that increases access to quality career training for new technicians and offers current employees opportunities to advance their skills while maintaining work-life balance. The program was developed in collaboration with Interplay Learning’s Registered Apprenticeship Program, which is approved by the Office of Apprenticeship and several State Apprenticeship Agencies. This framework allows Modigent to implement a consistent and scalable apprenticeship model across all 18 of its operating companies, standardizing training and supporting clear career progression for employees nationwide.
Ryan Elder, vice president of human resources and talent capabilities at Modigent, stated, “We are committed to building a program that meets people where they are, professionally and personally. By offering a flexible, tech-forward learning experience, we’re investing in the long-term growth and retention of our workforce and creating more opportunities for our employees to advance.”
The program features simulation-based online learning combined with weekly in-person lab sessions. Over 12-week semesters, apprentices complete self-paced, interactive coursework through Interplay’s platform, which uses advanced 3D and virtual reality simulations to create a realistic and immersive training environment. These virtual scenarios allow apprentices to safely explore HVAC and plumbing systems, practice diagnostics, and master procedures before attending lab sessions. Training is accessible anytime, on any device, providing employees with the flexibility to develop their skills on their own schedule.
Doug Donovan, CEO and founder of Interplay Learning, commented, “Modigent is taking a forward-thinking approach to training that prioritizes both quality and accessibility. We’re proud to support their vision with a solution that helps employees build meaningful careers in the trades.”
The apprenticeship program will officially launch in September 2025 at select Modigent operating companies, with plans to expand across all 18 operating companies nationwide following the initial rollout.
